Eagles ready for playoff opportunity

LA CROSSE, Wis. (WKBT)–The last time UWL made the playoffs, most players on the current team were in elementary school.

But the road to their first tournament game in a decade and a half wasn’t an easy one.

The Eagles failed to win the WIAC Championship, and out of the 32 teams that compete for the D3 title, 27 of them win their conference and win an automatic bid.

They had to play well enough to be one of five teams added to the tournament at large and up to the selection Sunday show. But while waiting to see if they would make the tournament they had to keep the same strong mindset that had gotten them to this point.

“It’s the mentality that we’ve always had, knowing that anything could happen when it comes to a selection show. We had the mentality that it’s win or go home, we’re going to keep doing what we’re doing. Keep playing good football the best we can, and have each other’s backs,” said Senior Jake Simuncak.

Eagles will be headed to Albion for round one Saturday at noon.
