Duluth Trading Co. holds grand opening celebration in downtown La Crosse
LA CROSSE, Wis. (WKBT) — It was a noisy day on Main Street in La Crosse Thursday.
The sounds of chainsaws echoed in downtown La Crosse for the grand opening of the Duluth Trading Company.
The department store opened last week, but held a street celebration Thursday to mark the occasion.
After the formal ribbon cutting, the festivities included free barbecue and a lumberjack demonstration.
Mayor Tim Kabat says the store is just the latest piece of a booming downtown area.
“You look at hotel development, the council just recently saying yes to moving forward with the La Crosse Center expansion and renovation, the other restaurants, really all the other good things that are happening shows that La Crosse, especially downtown La Crosse, is the place to be,” said Kabat.
The mayor says the new store could draw more shoppers downtown which would also benefit other nearby stores and restaurants.
