Driver charged in deadly I-90 crash in La Crosse working on plea deal

29-year-old Jason Songer of La Crescent was killed in the crash

A dump truck driver charged with homicide for his involvement in a deadly interstate crash is working on a plea deal.

The La Crosse Co. district attorney and the defense team of Francis Rychtik are hoping to have plea deal finalized by next week.

Rychitk rear-ended a car driven by 29-year-old Jason Songer of La Crescent on Interstate 90 in La Crosse last July.

He told police he was checking Facebook on his phone shortly before the morning crash and had been drinking heavily the night before.

Rychtik had a blood alcohol level of .047 three hours after the crash which is legally drunk for commercials drivers.

He’s expected back in court next Tuesday.
