Donation of ‘REACH BAGS’ to help kids in Onalaska following moments of crisis

The La Crosse Community Foundation gave the Police Department17 REACH BAGS

ONALASKA, Wis. (WKBT) – A unique donation will help the Onalaska Police Department comfort kids during a crisis.

The La Crosse Community Foundation gave the department 17 REACH BAGS.

There are new children’s books in the drawstring backpacks.

They are used to comfort children they’re involved in a crisis situation.

“This type of material getting out to the children is helpful to distract them and take them away from that traumatic situation the best we can,” said Onalaska Police Chief Charles Ashbeck.

The backpacks come from the Madison based ‘REACH-A-Child‘ organization.

The Madison-based nonprofit has been providing these resources to first responders in Wisconsin since 2007.

It helps more than 220  departments in the state.
