LA CROSSE, Wis. (WKBT) — Chevara Orrin, a diversity and inclusion practitioner, will give a virtual presentation for Viterbo University after she was inviting by the university’s Breaking Barriers Diversity Club and Franciscan Sisters of Perpetual Adoration.

Orrin will present “A Movement Not a Moment: 21st Century Activism” at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 23, via Zoom. The event will be a discussion of the legacy of the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and Orrin will share stories of her father, the Rev. James Luther Bevel, who was a key civil rights figure in the 1960s.

Orrin is a published author, social justice activist, independent filmmaker, and public speaker. She is also a survivor of childhood poverty, incest, teenage pregnancy, and domestic violence. Her personal journey of tragedy and triumph has inspired Orrin to use her experiences and voice as a catalyst to ignite social transformation.
