Disabled hunters take to the woods for special hunt
LA CROSSE, WI (WKBT) — Sunday’s frigid temperatures didn’t not stop a special deer hunt from taking place in La Crosse. It was the 3rd annual special hunt at Hixon Forest. Hunters of all ages hit the woods early Sunday morning hoping get a deer.
The 2-day gun-deer hunt is for people with physical disabilities. Each hunter is assigned a post and are then paired-up with an able-bodied mentor. It gives them a chance to enjoy the sport despite whatever physical limitations they may have. “You know a lot of these people, you know when their disability comes on or they have an accident or something like that,” says Ron Lichtie from the DNR, “you know it provides them with an opportunity to realize that they can do a lot of these things they did in the past, so it’s a boost for them.”
Organizers say more than 30 hunters took part in this year’s hunt.23388620
