Digital box required for Charter customers

Changes take place in La Crosse area June 10

Charter is going through a nationwide digital conversion right now.

Starting on June 10, Charter customers in the La Crosse area will not be able to plug their TVs directly into a cable jack.

Customers will need a digital box of some kind and depending on your program package with Charter, customers will get one or more free for some time.

If you have a box, including DVRs, you’re set. Charter’s change only impacts anyone who plugs TV directly into the cable jack.

“If you have a box on your television already, you’re fine, you don’t need to come in and you don’t need to do anything different, except the fact that you’re going to be receiving more channels,” said Kimberly Noetzel, Charter Communications senior manager.

All digital conversion will offer 200 HD channels and 10,000 Video on Demand Options with the box.

The change will also eventually provide a faster Internet speed. At the end of the summer, it will also provide 60 mbps Internet as basic (doubled from 30 megabytes per second).

A Charter service technician showed us how to hook up the new box to the TV. Watch the video at the top of this article to see the step-by-step instructions. Here’s what he told us:

Hook up an HDMI cord to an open port on the TV then pass the other end of the cord through the back of your TV or entertainment system so you can grab it by the front of the TV. Hook up the coax cable to the “coax in” spot on the digital box. It says “cable in.” Then hook up the HDMI cable to the digital box and then hook up the power cord to the digital box.
