Defending state champion Blugolds ‘out here to prove ourselves’ in 2022

For this year’s Aquinas football team, 2021’s state-title run means nothing. The focus is on getting better in 2022.

“Last year was great and it was special, but it has no bearing on this season,” Head Coach Tom Lee said. “We have to move on. We have to turn the page on that.”

Coach Lee added that the athletes are not allowed to wear any state-championship gear in the weight room or on the practice field. The slate has been wiped clean for the Blugolds as they prepare for their first game of the season.

“Last year is last year. That’s over with now,” senior quarterback Jackson Flottmeyer said.  “We’re out here to prove ourselves. We haven’t done anything this year yet. We’re just here to get better every day.”

Aquinas will get its first test of the regular season on August 19th as the Blugolds open their 2022 campaign at home against Prairie Du Chien.
