Crashes in Eau Claire, Vernon and Jackson counties kill one, injure others

WILSON, Wis. (WKBT) — A 26-year-old motorcyclist died in a crash in the township of Wilson Wednesday, while accidents in Vernon County and Jackson County injured two people, including one with life-threatening injuries, authorities said.
In Eau Claire County, the motorcyclist was killed in a crash with an SUV in the township of Wilson, according to the sheriff’s department.
In Vernon County, a motorcyclist was injured in a collision with a truck at about 6 p.m. in the town of Hamburg.
And in Jackson County, a man suffered life-threatening injuries in a three-vehicle crash about 10 p.m. on westbound Interstate 94 near Hixton, Wisconsin State Patrol troopers said.
In the Eau Claire County accident, the motorcyclist, from Fairchild, Wis., was northbound on County Hwy H at about 2:25 p.m. when he struck a southbound Chevrolet Tahoe turning left onto Henneman Road, deputies said.
The motorcyclist was thrown from his cycle and suffered fatal injuries, according to the accident report.
The SUV driver, an 18-year-old Thorp, Wis., man, was not injured, according to the sheriff’s department, which is not releasing names yet. The investigation continues.
Assisting the Eau Claire County Sheriff’s Department were the Augusta Police Department, Wisconsin State Patrol, the Stanley and Boyd fire departments, Boyd Ambulance and Life Link Air Medical Transport.
In the Vernon County mishap, Robert Placke, 35, of Lancaster, Wis., was driving a truck westbound in the right lane on US Hwy. 14 east of Dahlen going up the west Coon Valley hill when 41-year-old motorcyclist Chad Dunlavey of Coon Valley attempted to pass Placke by cutting between two vehicles, deputies said.
The motorcycle struck the left rear corner of Placke’s truck and overturned, according to the accident report.
Dunlavey, who had been wearing a helmet, was evaluated at the scene for minor injuries but declined transport to the hospital.
Assisting the Vernon County Sheriff’s Department were the Coon Valley Police Department, Coon Valley First Responders and Gundersen Tri-State Ambulance.
The incident remains under investigation by the Vernon County Sheriff’s Office.
In Jackson County, a three-vehicle crash occurred at about 10 p.m. on westbound I-94 near Hixton, according to the Wisconsin State Patrol.
Minutes before the crash, a motorist reported to the Jackson County Sheriffs Dispatch Center that a pickup was traveling eastbound in the westbound traffic lanes. The eastbound GMC Sierra pickup collided into a westbound Peterbilt semi unit and a Ford F250 pickup truck.
The Sierra’s driver was flown by helicopter to a hospital with suspected life-threatening injuries. The other two drivers were not hurt.
The state patrol continues the investigation.
