Crash fatalities rising in Wisconsin

LA CROSSE, Wis (WKBT) – When the pandemic started Wisconsin saw a large drop in driving around the country, but Wisconsin has also seen an increase in fatal crashes.

Overall traffic is down however the Wisconsin DOT estimates that driving is down 26.3%  from last year while alcohol-related deaths have gone up about 50%. Drug-involved crash deaths have gone up 45.8% and speeding deaths saw a 51.8% increase.

There are also 24.7% more people who had fatal car crashes when not wearing a seatbelt.
