COVID-19 prompts Wisconsin DNR to suspend burning permits
Action doesn't affect La Crosse permits for recreational fire pits
LA CROSSE, Wis. (WKBT) – The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources has suspended all burning permits until further notice because of the COVID-19 Safer at Home order in the state, according to the La Crosse Fire Department.
The ban does not apply to recreational fire pits where homeowners who have permits from the city, according to a fire department news release.
Burning permits are required in many parts of the state to conduct legal and responsible burning outdoors. As of now, however, the permits are suspended, so all burning of debris and debris piles on the ground, grass or in wooded areas.
Spring is a high-risk time because the snow has melted, but grass and plants have not turned green.
