COVID-19 positive test cancels first Northwoods League game of 2020 season
Rockford Rivets staff member tested positive in Illinois
The Wisconsin-Illinois pod in the Northwoods League officially has its first brush with COVID-19.
The Wisconsin Woodchucks in Wausau have announced their scheduled home game Friday night with the Rockford Rivets would be canceled after a Rivets staff member tested positive down in Rockford, Illinois.
The official press release says the staff member in question did not travel with the team to Wisconsin, but the game is off due to an abundance of caution.
With the information provided, there is currently no indication the Rivets players and coaches are at risk. Since the Loggers just hosted the Rivets at Copeland Park July 28 and 29, Mews 8 Now Sports asked Loggers GM Ben Kapanke whether the development might change the team’s plans or health protocols. Kapanke said that because the individual did not travel to Wisconsin, the Loggers would not be changing their schedule.
The Loggers finished up a road series against the Fond du Lac Dock Spiders Friday night. Despite jumping out to a 2-0 lead, the Loggers could not avoid the sweep, losing 8-7 in 10 innings. They host the Woodchucks Saturday night.
