Couple falls to their deaths from Yosemite cliff

A couple died in an apparent fall from a popular overlook in Yosemite National Park, according to a statement from park officials.

The bodies of a man and woman were spotted by another tourist Wednesday, a park spokesman told The Associated Press. The bodies were being recovered Thursday morning and have not yet been identified.

The couple fell from Taft Point, which rises 3,000 feet above the Yosemite Valley floor. The overlook allows visitors to the park to walk up to the cliff’s edge with only minimal railings in a limited area.

The point is a popular spot for visitors to take selfies on the edge of the cliff.

The couple’s deaths comes a week after another couple’s proposal at the popular wedding photo backdrop became a social media sensation.
