Council approves $35 million for La Crosse Center renovations

La Crosse’s City Council approved Thursday night helping fund the La Crosse Center’s $45 million renovation and expansion project.

The council agreed to put forth $35 million for the project. That money will be paid back through room tax dollars and ticket surcharges.

The city will also pursue another $10 million in state funding for the project to update seating, the sound system, the main entryway, and also to build a new ballroom.

According to the director of the Center, the renovations could bring an additional $48 million to our area each year.

Council members also approved starting the process of finding a project manager, and taking bids from architects. The center’s director says that process will take at least six months.
