Coulee Region Hunger Walk/Run refocuses local efforts on feeding neighbors
LA CROSSE, Wis. (WKBT) — About 100 people came to Myrick Park in La Crosse on Saturday for the first Coulee Region Hunger Walk/Run.
The event is raising money for a variety of food relief groups, but will mostly be helping the Hunger Task Force and WAFER Food Pantry.
One of the events organizers, Harvey Witzenburg, said there used to be a similar event called “Crop Walk”, but organizers wanted more of the money raised to go to local agencies.
Witzenburg said the turnout for the redesigned event has them looking to the future.
“It’s more than we got the last couple years of Crop Walk. Hopefully it’ll build, and next year it’ll be 150, the next year 200. Who knows?” said Witzenburg.
Witzenburg said organizers talked with directors of local food relief groups, who told them the event is going to be a big help.
