Coulee Region Chill won’t play in 2020-21 NA3HL season
Team without a home due to Green Island Ice Arena closing
The Coulee Region Chill will be not be a part of the 2020-21 NA3HL hockey season, managing director Michelle Bryant told News 8 Now Sports on Monday.
The Chill have used Green Island Ice Arena the last several years, but the City of La Crosse said in January the rink would not operate next fall because of high costs.
A management group has not approached the city to manage Green Island Ice Arena, so the Chill were not able to secure a lease for a rink by the league’s deadline of March 31.
Managing Director Michelle Bryant said in an email to employees that the Omni Center rental costs are too high for the team to consider moving there.
She went on to say her family has invested so much into the La Crosse community that they were not considering moving the Chill somewhere else.
Bryant says she’s hopeful the city of La Crosse “will find a way to keep Green Island open in the years ahead.”
The Chill finished third in the Central division in the latest NA3HL season, but the playoffs were canceled due to COVID-19.
