Coon Valley native dies of unknown medical condition at UW-Eau Claire
EAU CLAIRE, Wis. (WKBT) — A Coon Valley native died from an unknown medical condition while attending UW-Eau Claire.
The UW-Eau Claire Dean of Students Joseph Abhold sent the following message to the school’s students, faculty and staff regarding the death.
“Dear UW-Eau Claire community members,
It is with great sadness that I inform you of the loss of one of our fellow Blugolds, Lauren Valentina Berg, who passed away yesterday, April 1, from an unknown medical condition. Lauren was a first-year UW-Eau Claire student from Coon Valley, Wisconsin, majoring in human resource management.
While the medical cause of Lauren’s death is still being determined, testing has confirmed that she did not die from meningitis. Health Department officials said precautionary measures are not necessary in this situation.
Information regarding funeral services for Lauren will be forthcoming.
Anyone who has been affected by this tragic loss and is in need of support is encouraged to contact Counseling Services at 715-836-5521 or stop in their office in Room 2122 of Vicki Lord Larson Hall.
Chancellor Jim Schmidt and I met yesterday with Lauren’s family and many friends. We extended condolences on behalf of our entire university community. Our thoughts and hearts are with them during this difficult time.”
