LA CROSSE (WKBT) -- To honor veterans who lost their life while protecting the country, La Crosse Central High School hosted the 101 edition of their Memorial Day observance program.
Central High School wants their students and the community to understand how the sacrifices of many men and women have helped protect the nation.
The ceremony included performances from Central's color guard, flag corps, and robed choir.
After 101 editions of the event, one veteran says that it means a lot to him and others in the community.
"Its humbling that a public education institution does take the time to honor veterans and recognize the ultimate sacrifice of those who have died while protecting this country," said retired veteran Neil Duresky.
Friday's main address was given by La Crosse School District superintendent Aaron Engel who has served in the military for 20 years.
He said that Friday was an important time for everyone.
"I'm glad that our students and community can be a part of celebrating Memorial Day," said Engel. "It's important to recognize the service and sacrifice of those who have defended our country."
La Crosse Central has hosted the annual program since the school opened its doors in 1923.
They continue to encourage the community to thank veterans that they may know.
