Community welcomes home state champion Bangor Cardinals

The  Bangor football team got a welcome home Thursday night they won’t soon forget.

The Cardinals football team won their first-ever state championship in Madison against Pepin-Alma.

Hundreds of fans greeted them Thursday night at the high school after they got a police escort through town with fans lining the street.

For both the fans and the players, the championship means more than just a name on a trophy.

“This is a great thing for our community, we’re very proud of our coaching staff and these boys for what they’ve done for this town,” said fan Staci Stenner.

“It means a lot, just coming together as a community, it really has brought really everyone together as you can see, a lot of people who don’t usually come out and support us are here tonight,” said Cardinal football player Jack Reader.

The Cardinals defeated Pepin-Alma 20-14.
