Community members share ideas to improve La Crosse
On Monday people shared their ideas on how to improve La Crosse.
Some of the things they discussed were taxes, road repairs, traffic, homelessness, and neighborhood quality of life.
One topic that stood out to Mayor Tim Kabat was on substance abuse.
He says it’s one of the City’s biggest challenges.
People voiced their concerns about the negative impacts it has on neighborhoods.
“There is some frustration from people when it comes to the for-profit drug dealers who are preying on neighborhoods, preying on the community,” Kabat said.
He says it’s a topic that needs to be talked about so the city can continue to work toward solutions.
“It was a very good conversation, very positive. It focused on what are the things that the city can do to try to help the situation.”
There’s a growing amount of resources for people struggling with addiction, but community members say there’s still more work to be done.
Kabat also mentioned he was happy to see some new faces at the meeting, including a young man who recently moved to La Crosse.
