An educational video on the dangers of vaping premiered at the Myrick Park Center in La Crosse on Thursday.

“Know More About Vaping” is a video that educates parents and adults about e-cigarettes and how to talk to kids about the topic.

Alongside the premiere, community members were recognized for their efforts in tobacco prevention for our area.

Leah Burns and Jay Odegaard, with the La Crosse Parks, Recreation and Forestry Department, were honored for successfully passing a tobacco-free parks policy.
Jen Rombalski, the health director for La Crosse County, was honored for working with department heads to post signage, promoting safe and healthy environments on La Crosse County-owned properties.
Kate Ottow, a graduate student at UW-La Crosse created the “Know More About Vaping” video for her graduate project. You can watch the full video here.

“As a parent and educator myself, I had no idea what Juuling was, and I had heard of e-cigarettes,” said Ottow. “It seemed that the youth were using these products, and they don’t really understand the health consequences, but as adults we don’t understand them either. So in order to teach the youth about them we have to be informed.”

Ottow created the video along with support from experts in the health field, students, parents and other past and present members of our community.
