Community members gather to search for missing UWL student Hamud Faal

Anyone with information is asked to call La Crosse police non-emergency number

LA CROSSE, Wis. (WKBT) – The search continues for UW-La Crosse student Hamud Faal.

Students and staff from UWL , community members and people from around Wisconsin were joined by family of Faal’s Saturday afternoon in La Crosse to look for him.

The 25-year-old was last seen early Sunday morning walking alone near Front and Jay streets.

Several UWL students took part, including some that know Faal.

“It means a lot to have community support. Hamud is such a great person. And he deserves to have all these people out here looking for him,” said UWL student Ysabella Overman.

The search is part of an on-going search effort, following search efforts earlier this week.

Groups were assigned specific sections along the Mississippi River and in La Crosse’s downtown to search for Faal.

Organizers were hoping for 170 volunteers.

Due to the high turnout, the search was expected to take quicker than planned.

You can still help the effort from your home.

“If the community wants to their ring doorbell camera footage or any other security camera footage, I know La Crosse is looking any and all types of videos,” said UWL dean of students Kara Ostlund.

Faal was last seen at 3:37 a.m. Sunday walking alone southbound on Front Street on the west side of the La Crosse Center.

Anyone with information is asked to call La Crosse Police non-emergency number at (608) 782-7575.
