Community members can sign up for free smoke alarms during event in La Crosse

Sign-up event will be hosted at Dahl Family YMCA in La Crosse

LA CROSSE, Wis. (WKBT) – Home fires can happen at any time.

An upcoming event is helping to make sure everyone can stay safe if they happen.

During the event Monday, you can sign-up for a free home fire safety visit.

The American Red Cross and the La Crosse Area Family YMCA are hosting the event.

The American Red Cross and their partners will install free smoke alarms during the visit and work with families on home fire escape plans.

Smoke alarms can help save your home and give you more time to escape.

“If you have working smoke alarms in your house, your chances of dying in a house fire are cut in half. It’s really a very valuable piece of safety,” said Red Cross volunteer Peter Knapik.
Everything takes place Monday at the Dahl Family YMCA in La Crosse, from 8 in the morning to 8 in the evening.

You can also register by leaving a message with your name, number and address by calling (608) 232-7468.
