Coleman set to outline plans for top St. Paul post

St. Paul’s mayor is ready to declare his political intentions as his second term winds down.

Democrat Chris Coleman scheduled an announcement Wednesday. All signs point to another re-election bid. He has been holding campaign fundraisers and using speeches to project longer-term goals.

Coleman was first elected in 2005 and won a new term in 2009. He opted against a run for governor in 2010 after giving it considerable thought.

There has been far less jockeying in St. Paul to replace Coleman as there has been in Minneapolis, where there’s a wide-open race. Minneapolis Mayor R.T. Rybak is stepping down after three terms.
