Cold and flu season: Mayo Clinic Health System offer tips on how to keep kids healthy
LA CROSSE (WKBT) — Temperatures are dropping and that means cold and flu season is on the way.
Doctors at Mayo Clinic Health System are prepping parents for viruses this year.
One infectious disease specialist recommends parents don’t treat kids with antibiotics for common colds and flu as it could make symptoms worse.
“In order to keep them effective for these types of serious infections, we really need to only use them when we know that they’ll be effective and treat patients.” said Pediatric Infectious Diseases Specialist Dr. Nipunie Rajapakse.
If you or your child does get sick this flu season, specialists recommend rest and plenty of fluids.
Doctors also suggest parents give their kids ibuprofen or acetaminophen to help reduce fevers.
