Clearing snow from drains can help avoid water pooling on streets
Continued temperatures above freezing will continue the snow melt across the area
LA CROSSE, Wis. (WKBT) – While you’ve got your shovels out, clear the snow around drains.
Clogged drains can lead to pooling of water along streets.
That pooling can cause damage to cars and traffic problems.
As temperatures continue to jump above and below the freezing point, a little time shoveling could help the community.
“During the day it melts and then that water builds up and then at night it freezes. Not having them clear, you get that ice that continues to just build up and build up. And you can get an almost a skating rink created on a half a city block,” said La Crosse utility manager Bernard Lenz.
There are 6,400 storm drains in the city of La Crosse.
