Volunteers help clean up bluffs in La Crosse
Crews cleaned up from Highway 16 all the way to the top of the bluffs
LA CROSSE, Wis. (WKBT) – Volunteers are coming together on Saturday in hopes of brightening up the bluffs. The ORA Trails along with the La Crosse’s Park and Rec department put the event together.
Crews cleaned up from Highway 16 all the way to the top of the bluffs. From small items to large radios, volunteers have seen many things during the clean-up. Unfortunately, there is a wide variety of items because many people see the bluffs as a landfill.
“Honestly I think a lot of stuff that’s gotten to the top has been with the ill intention of throwing it off a bluff. I think people bring stuff out and they throw it off and they want to see it go crash. But then it’s sitting there until somebody else has the gumption to go retrieve it, bring it back down, and put it in a dumpster,” said Jed Olson, the Executive Director of the ORA Trails.
In the previous years, the clean-up crews have cleared more than 20 thousand pounds of trash during one event.
