Clay Matthews fined for hit on Russell Wilson
NFL imposes $22,050 penalty on Packers linebacker
GREEN BAY — Packers linebacker Clay Matthews has been fined $22,050 by the NFL for his hit on Seahawks quarterback Russell Wilson on a play in the second quarter of Sunday’s NFC Championship game.
Wilson threw an interception to the Packers’ Ha Ha Clinton-Dix and on the return, Matthews hit Wilson with a block the NFL determined to be a blind side hit.
Matthews said after the game he was just looking to block someone and didn’t realize it was Wilson.
Matthews was called for a 15-yard penalty on the play.
