Clark County man killed after car was struck by train
WITHEE, Wis. (WKBT) — Updated to include the man’s name.
A Wisconsin man has died after his car was struck by a train in Clark County. George Peter Louis, 87 of Owen, was killed in the incident, according to the Wisconsin State Patrol.
The incident happened around 9:45 on Saturday morning. The Wisconsin State Patrol received a report of a train versus automobile crash at a crossing on Berglin Avenue near Withee, Wisconsin.
According to authorities, the 2002 Chrysler Concorde attempted to cross the railroad track when it was struck by a Canadian National freight train.
The train crew was uninjured. The train’s driver was identified as Dale Michael Merrell, 36 of Spooner. One passenger was identified as Matthew Lee Kersten, 37 of Rice Lake.
In a statement, CN said its crews and police responded to the incident. Its police officials are assisting the Clark County Sheriff’s department in the investigation. A spokesperson said the company’s thoughts are with the family of the victim of the incident.
Owen Withee Ambulance, Clark County Sheriff’s Department and Marshfield Fire and Rescue assisted following the incident. The crash remains under investigation.
