City of La Crosse reminds residents of snow removal policy

While La Crosse has not seen a lot of snow this winter season, the City wants to remind people of its snow removal policy.

City Ordinance requires snow and ice be removed from sidewalks near your home and business within 24 hours after a snowfall.

City workers will clear sidewalks left covered. Home and business owners will be charged $2.50 per foot for the work along with a $50 administration fee. The City will not warn people before shoveling and billing a property.

Tickets for not shoveling can also be issued.

City officials say the ordinance is in place to help those who need to use the sidewalks.

“And those folks also need to get to grocery stores, doctor appointments, etcetera. We just don’t want to have anybody take a fall out there and end up hurt,” said La Crosse Sidewalk Coordinator Doug Kerns.

The City of La Crosse offers a sand and salt mixture for residents to use for free. You can find the mixture at Fire Stations 2 and 4, the Erickson Fields on 21st Place South, and at the corner of Hood Street and Marco Drive on Isla La Plume.
