Chili Slam raises money to buy bikes for kids

Beer By Bike Brigade hosts 2nd annual Chili Slam

A group in La Crosse ditched the cold while raising money for Habitat for Humanity Saturday.

The ‘Beer By Bike Brigade’ hosted their second annual Chili Slam, warming both bellies and hearts alike.

Past and future ‘Beer By Bike Brigade’ hosts, along with some local bike shops, provided more than 25 different chilies for guests, and everything was personally funded, meaning 100-percent of donations will go to this year’s recipients.

“It’s so easy to become a part of, given that the other community businesses and everybody are just trying to collaborate to get together to offer these things to families, and it’s such a small cost for each individual that it really helps spread out the workload,” said Danny Johnson of the Blue Heron Bike Shop.

Donations raised are going toward purchasing bicycles and safety accessories for six children from three different Habitat for Humanity families.
