Chili cook-off raises money for area veterans
WEST SALEM, Wis. (WKBT) – People are getting together to support area veterans.
West Salem American Legion Post 51 hosted a chili cook-off and beer and wine tasting on Saturday.
The event raises funds to support the Freedom Honor Flight.
There were 12 different chilies for people to sample, and they got to vote for their favorites.
Beer and wine samples from area breweries and wineries were also available to try.
It’s a special way for the community to honor veterans.
“It’s really important to give to our community. West Salem is a wonderful community, and supporting the veterans is something we feel is really, really important. We have veterans in the family and we think it’s important to support them,” said Rita Schmitz, event coordinator.
This is the first year the American Legion hosted this cook-off.
They hope to make it an annual event.
