Chili cook-off kicks off annual Ready Set School fundraising campaign

Program helps students obtain school supplies

Those that braved the cold Saturday were able to warm their bellies with some chili from local restaurants.

Winona’s Ready Set School program held a chili cook-off today to kick off its annual fundraising campaign. The program helps ensure that Winona County children have the school supplies they need.

Saturday’s chili cook-off offered all you can eat chilies from local restaurants for just $10.

“This really brings the whole community together, because in order to get our chili we need people to donate chili. So, we have restaurants in town, businesses, anyone who can cook chili in a commercial kitchen and donate it to us, that’s what we sell out of our kitchen,” said Winona National Bank Marketing Communications Officer Jenny Baertsch.

Nearly 20 local organizations took part in the chili cook-off this year.
