LA CROSSE, Wis. (WKBT) — The Children’s Museum of La Crosse will reopen on June 3 with only pre-scheduled visits, although the facility will host sidewalk activities this weekend as part of Downtown Mainstreet’s Spring Fever event.

The museum, at 207 5th Ave. S., will have a 30% off sidewalk sale of fun shop items from 4 to 6 p.m. Friday and 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday. Also Saturday, the museum will host free kindness rock paintings outside from 1 to 3 p.m.

The June 3 reopening, after the museum’s extended COVID-19 hiatus, will be only via online reservations at the museum’s website. https://www.funmuseum.org/

“We look forward to the Children’s Museum being a place full of laughter and learning again after being closed for more than a year,” said Executive Director Anne Snow.

Reopening hours will be 9 a.m. to noon Thursdays through Sundays, with closing from noon to 1 p.m. for cleaning, and open again from 1 to 5 p.m.

On recommendations of the La Crosse County Health Department, everyone 3 and older will be required to wear a face mask in the museum — regardless of vaccination status. Visitors also will be asked to maintain distance from others who are not in their group.

Museum members will be contacted soon with new expiration dates, extended by the full number of days remaining as of March 16, 2020, when the museum closed for the pandemic.

In the coming weeks, staffers will be hired and trained. New cleaning protocols will include one-hour, mid-day closure for exchange of high-touch manipulatives/playthings, frequent disinfecting of high-touch surfaces, added hand-sanitizing stations, new HVAC filters and an more frequent schedule to recirculate outside air.

Drinking fountains will be removed and a water bottle filling station will be added.
