Childcare & Early Education Summit held at Western Technical College in La Crosse
Business leaders, government officials gather to discuss solutions to lack of affordable child care
LA CROSSE, Wis. (WKBT) —Wisconsin government officials and employers gathered in La Crosse for a summit on early child care and education.
Competitive Wisconsin Inc. organized the summit to address issues and improve the state’s workforce.
The group is brainstorming ways to ease Wisconsin’s child care crisis.
Organizers say the shortage of child care is keeping parents from getting back into the workforce.
“This is a crisis of major proportions,” said Mark O’Connell, president and CEO of the Wisconsin Counties Association. “We have people that aren’t able to enter the workforce for lack of available child care, or lack of affordable child care.”
Summit leaders are also discussing how American Rescue Plan Act funding can be invested by local governments into sustainable child care solutions.
