Chart lays off 50 additional La Crosse workers
Second layoff since end of 2014
LA CROSSE, Wis. (WKBT) — A La Crosse business is laying off workers for the second time in just a few months.
Chart Industries is laying off 50 workers after laying off 55 others at the end of last year.
Chart makes equipment used in the energy industry. The cuts are being made in all manufacturing areas of the company, including product inspection, receiving and product testing.
The company released the following statement on the layoffs:
“Chart did not make this decision lightly. Chart Industries has seen a continued slow down in orders since the last round of layoffs at the end of next year. Chart hoped the market would improve but the markets haven’t rebounded to the point where they could bring back the previously laid off workers (55) and had to let 50 additional workers go effective April 10, 2015. Chart (is) consistently looking at sales improvement and hopes the market improves enough to bring workers back at some point but thinks it is unfair to put a time estimate on bringing any workers back.”
Chart recently completed a $50 million expansion in La Crosse.
