Chart Energy & Chemicals announces 55 layoffs in La Crosse
Temporary layoffs due to slowdown of orders
LA CROSSE, Wis. (WKBT) — Chart Energy & Chemicals, Inc. is announcing that it will be temporarily laying off 55 workers at its La Crosse location, citing a slowdown of orders.
Chart recently finished a $50 million expansion project on Ward Avenue, and had a temporary real estate tax reduction deal with the city of La Crosse through at TIF agreement. In a statement released Tuesday, Chart says they will no longer be asking for the tax rebate following the layoffs.
“Chart has a long history in La Crosse and we remain committed to the community,” Chart Industries Director of Investor Relations and Financial Planning Jim Fischman said in a statement.
More than 500 workers will remain at Chart in La Crosse.
