Changes at Red Cross expected to have little impact on services locally

LA CROSSE, Wis.–   The American Red Cross is cutting more than 1500 jobs nationwide.   The announcement came this week.

Many local offices have been pared down including the Scenic Bluffs Chapter in La Crosse.   They lost two positions: one person was laid off and another position wasn’t refilled.

However, the regional development director says they are still ready and prepared to provide the important services they’ve always provided.  ” I know that the changes that were made were done with the idea that we would be able to more effectively and efficiently provide the services. And to be a better steward of the donated dollars. So, that’s what’s behind making all these changes,” says Cheryl Hancock.

Hancock says the agency is going back to their roots and will begin using their volunteers in bigger roles within the agency.
