Change of Command ceremony held at Fort McCoy as military installation welcomes new garrison leader

FORT McCOY, Wis. (WKBT) — A ceremony at Fort McCoy Thursday marked the changing of command for the garrison.

Col. Michael D. Poss relinquished command of the U.S. Army Garrison Fort McCoy to Col. Stephen T. Messenger.

Poss says it’s a bittersweet day for him, and that he’s enjoyed everyone he’s worked with at the installation.

“Being the Garrison Commander at Fort McCoy has been the best position of my 35-year Army career and, without a doubt, I’d stay forever if I could, but, of course, the position is tenured and it was just a great day to thank everyone for the accomplishments we have,” said Poss.

Poss will still be at Fort McCoy, but he will now head the 88th Readiness Division.

He says the incoming garrison leader, Col. Messenger, is excited to take his new position to the next level.
