Chalk drawings raise money for Salvation Army

The first-ever Chalkfest in La Crosse is a chalk-art competition held Saturday.

The event is hosted by the La Crosse Arts Initiative.

The competition involved six teams drawing on the corner of 5th Avenue and Jay Street in downtown La Crosse. The teams were competing for cash prizes and the public’s vote.

“The Salvation Army has brought their red buckets here for us to use, people can vote by putting their money into the bucket, any amount, for their favorite work of art, and whoever raises the most money get the People’s Choice Award,” said Mike Martino, co-founder of the arts initiative.

All the money placed into the Red Kettle’s goes to the Salvation Army.
