Central suffers heartbreaking overtime loss in regional semifinals
Eau Claire North drilled a three-pointer late in overtime to upset Central boys basketball 58-57 Friday night in regional semifinal action.
Central led by two in overtime with 17 seconds left when Noah Compan wasn’t able to cash in on the front end of a one-and-one. North grabbed the miss and, with no timeouts, went down the floor and nailed a three from the left wing. RiverHawks sophomore Bennett Fried was able to fire off a buzzer-beater for the potential win, but it rimmed out.
Central was up seven in the second half of regulation, but several consecutive turnovers allowed North to come back and help force overtime.
Devon Fielding led the RiverHawks with 20 points, and Porter Pretasky added 18 points in the effort.
