LA CROSSE, Wis (WKBT) – Sunday marks the beginning of the Hmong New Year.

One La Crosse Non-profit organization (Cia Siab Inc.) has a yearly celebration to mark the new Hmong calendar.

However, this year due to the pandemic they couldn’t host their usual events and had to settle for hosting the celebration virtually.

Members of the Hmong community came together to share their talents whether it be musical or culinary.

Celebrating the New Year is important to the culture and traditions of the Hmong community.

“We only have the Hmong New Year, and the Hmong New Year is when we do all of our celebrations. So it’s just really important for us to remember that’s who we are. And to remember our culture and our traditions and to celebrate that,” said Xong Xiong, the Executive Director of Cia Siab Inc.
