CDC investigating if heart inflammation is linked to COVID vaccine
LA CROSSE, Wis. (WKBT) – The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention is investigating whether the hospitalization of more than a dozen children with heart inflammation is connected to the COVID-19 vaccine.
Eighteen kids in Connecticut have been hospitalized. 17 have since been sent home from the hospital, and one remains under observation as doctors try and see if this is linked to the COVID vaccine.
A health expert at Mayo Clinic Health System in La Crosse say to not panic and to continue with vaccinations.
“Really were just seeing very few cases, mostly in older adolescents or young adults,” Mayo Clinic Health System chair of pediatrics Dr. Joseph Poterucha said. “But anytime you hear the word ‘heart’ involved with the vaccine, I can see where that can be very scary.”
So far, none of the children have suffered any long-term effects from the vaccine.
