Cashton soldier makes it home to surprise daughter on her 5th birthday
CASHTON,Wis. (WKBT)- The great gifts don’t always come in a box or wrapped with pretty ribbon. For America’s military families, the best gifts are dressed in Army green. “That’s probably the hardest moment of my life; saying goodbye to them.
When Kody Willis deployed to the Middle East nearly one year ago, the solder was ready. But; there was no way to prepare this married, father of two for the heartache of being away from home. Or; the tears on his daughter’s face when the Army delayed her dad’s homecoming. “I asked her, so Lilly what do you want for your birthday? She said I don’t want anything dad. All I want is you to be home for it.”, says Willis.
Kody delivered, getting orders home just in time to march into his daughter’s classroom on her 5th birthday. “As soon as I saw her, that’s when the tears really started coming down; best feeling I’ve had in a long time”, says Willis. Tears of joy for surprise reunions, and the gift of love wrapped in overdue hugs and kisses.
Dad’s homecoming wasn’t the only surprise for the Willis family. Kody picked up the family’s new puppy later that night.
