Building Blocks of Hope raises funds for Hope Academy

Lego contest brings together families and children

The “Building Blocks of Hope” Lego contest was held at Valley View Mall on Saturday.

The event supports the Hope Academy, an alternative high school for teen mothers at the Family and Children’s Center.

Nearly every sign-up category was filled.  Organizers expect to raise nearly $10,000 at the 2nd annual “Building Blocks for Hope.”

Lego creations were judged on creativity, building skill, and overall appearance.  Aside from raising funds, the contest also looked to build family relationships.

“Great opportunity for us to offer an activity that is about building strong kids and strong families by encouraging them to participate in something that’s so fun like playing with Legos,” said Family and Children’s Center director of development Jamie Schloegel.

First, second, and third place winners received Valley View Mall gift cards.  All proceeds from entrants goes directly back in the Hope Academy.
