Boston Marathon survivor inspires local students

Jeff Bauman spoke at Onalaska High School Wednesday

A speaker is inspiring local students by showing his own struggles following a traumatic experience.

Jeff Bauman spoke at Onalaska High School as part of the YMCA’s Community Inspiration Event.

Bauman survived the Boston Marathon Bombing in April 2013, but the explosion required his legs to be amputated.

The Y’s event brings a nationally recognized speaker into schools to share their experiences and how they overcame their struggles.

“Students can relate to this because a lot of them are facing struggles of their own, and just seeing somebody who’s gone through something so challenging, so difficult, you know losing his legs and having those amputated, to truly inspire them,” says The YMCA’s Marketing and Communications Director, Travis Pernsteiner.

The Community Inspiration Event has been bringing national speakers to local schools for nearly a decade.
