Body of young woman found in downtown La Crosse
LA CROSSE, Wis. (WKBT) — La Crosse police are investigating the death of a young woman found in downtown La Crosse early Monday morning.
Police told News 8 the woman’s body was found by a restaurant worker on the walking path off of State Street, specifically behind 122 and 126 N. 3rd Street near the rear of Digger’s Sting Restaurant. It’s just south of 300 State Street.
La Crosse police were called at about 7 a.m. La Crosse Police Lieutenant Pat Hogan said the woman who was found is white and appears to be in her 20s.
The La Crosse County medical examiner was at the scene Monday morning, along with the La Crosse Fire Department.
State Street was closed between 3rd and 4th Streets for several hours Monday morning while investigators processed the scene.
La Crosse police are processing evidence and checking security camera footage in the area. Investigators are also checking with local businesses to see if there are any possible witnesses. ‘We will be checking into everything,” said La Crosse Police Lieutenant Pat Hogan.
An autopsy is scheduled for Tuesday in Madison.
