Blood donations needed in La Crosse, nationwide
LA CROSSE, Wis. (WKBT) — An emergency call for blood donations is being made by the American Red Cross.
Blood drives across the country were forced to cancel because of severe weather across the country this week.
The federal government shutdown also impacted donations.
More than 4 percent of Red Cross blood collections come from drives sponsored by military and government agencies.
Staff at a blood drive held Thursday in La Crosse say it doesn’t take a lot to save a life.
“We pretty much need all blood types. It’s become a really serious problem. O negative and O positive are always very, very needed, especially O negative because it’s universal blood type, but at this point all blood types are needed,” said Scott Friell, American Red Cross Donor Recruitment Representative.
Several blood drives are being planned throughout are area over the next week.
More information about upcoming drives can be found on the Red Cross’ website, RedCrossBlood.org.
