Michelle Poedel joined Storm Team 8 in January of 2011 as the Weekend Meteorologist. Before coming to News 8, she worked as the Weekend Meteorologist/Reporter at KEYC-TV in Mankato, MN.
Michelle is originally from Grafton, WI, a suburb of Milwaukee, and knew from a very young age that weather was her calling. It began as a fear of severe weather and when severe weather would strike, she’d spend all of her time watching the local TV meteorologists to find out exactly what as going on. Her family teases that as a child she was more interested in The Weather Channel than cartoons. This is what drove her to earn her degree in Atmospheric Sciences/Meteorology from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee. She also had the opportunity to complete 3 years worth of internships at two stations she grew up watching: One at WITI and the other at WTMJ in Milwaukee.

I have two. Anchorman and Morning Glory. And yes, they both have to do with working in the broadcast news industry.
Do you have a personal motto or quote that inspires you?
“Wherever you go, now matter what the weather, always bring your own sunshine” –Anthony J. D’Angelo
What sports team are you a big fan of?
I’m a Wisconsin girl all the way: Packers and Brewers.
Do you have a hobby or collect anything special to you?
It’s not really a collection, but is very special to me. I have inherited all of my grandmother’s old jewelry. Our taste for big, beautiful jewelry was something her and I had in common. Some pieces are even from her mother and mother-in-law, which dates back to the very early 1900’s.
What do you like about your job?
I get to come to work everyday and do exactly what I love. I have dreamed of being a meteorologist since I was very young. I can honestly say that I enjoy coming to work everyday. Another perk: I really enjoy doing school talks. Kids are usually so interested in weather and always ask great questions.
Pizza. Sausage, pepperoni or everything on it?
Cheese or Veggie. I’m a Vegetarian.
