Email Mal

Mal returned home to Wisconsin after years away in Minnesota, California and Massachusetts. A high school English teacher suggested he take a ‘Journalism 101’ course and the reporting bug took hold. Mal left the dairy state to pursue a Journalism degree with a double minor in Women’s, Gender and Sexuality Studies and Environmental Studies at Emerson College. During that time, he contributed to two news programs that won an EVVY Award for Outstanding Studio Television Series. Mal was also recognized for reporting on sexual assault on Emerson’s campus. From Boston, Mal moved to San Francisco for a brief stint in press relations and marketing. After attending an Investigative Reporters and Editors Conference, he decided to pack everything up and move to Bemidji, Minnesota, for a reporting position at KAWE/KAWB. Mal is most excited about being closer to home while growing to be a part of the La Crosse community.

Favorite movie: Mean Girls.
Do you have a personal motto or quote that inspires you? You’re only as good as the last story you produced.
Favorite way to spend a day off? I love to go on long hikes which is why I am so excited to be close to some great trails.
What sports team are you a big fan of? I’m not a sports person at all but since I’m from Wisconsin, I will always cheer on the Brew Crew or the Packers.
What are you bad at and wish you could do better? I need to get better at answering my emails. I also have terrible grammar.
Favorite food: I love artichokes.
What do you like about your job? I love getting to talk to people in the community. I know that it means a lot to my sources to get to share what is happening in their lives with the rest of the community. I take that very seriously.
Pizza:  Sausage, pepperoni or everything on it? Hawaiian or barbecue chicken.
